Mary Jane Newman

At seventeen, Mary Jane Newman, conductor and keyboardist, studied with the legendary Nadia Boulanger at the Conservatoire National de Paris. During that time she served as assistant conductor to Ms. Boulanger's, Monteverdi Ensemble in Paris and was the youngest organist in Paris, serving at the renowned English Church on Avenue Hoche.

Called “the finest harpsichordist of her generation” by the LA Times Ms. Newman made her New York debut in 1986 in Lincoln Center's "Great Performers" series at Alice Tully Hall. She has been a soloist with renowned ensembles including the Cracow Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Virginia Symphony, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Brandenburg Collegium, and the European Mozart Academy Orchestra in Prague and Cracow. She also conducted the Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater at the prestigious Mozart Festival in Prague.

In 2000, Mary Jane Newman became the founding co-principal and recording producer of the Khaeon label. Its CD releases are internationally distributed and have received critical acclaim by the New York Times, the Village Voice, The Washington Post, Billboard, Down Beat, Jazz Times, Latin Beat, and many other publications and have included several best-selling classical CDs

Ms. Newman is the artistic director of Musica Antiqua New York, Voci Angeli, Parthenia XII, and the Westfair Singers. 


Cellist Susannah Chapman is well-established as a chamber musician, soloist, contemporary music interpreter, and performer in leading cham-ber orchestras. The principal cellist of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, she is a former member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and currently performs regularly with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

 Ms. Chapman performs with the Bang-on-a-Can All-Stars, the cello quartet "Cello", and is a member of Cygnus, a contemporary music sex-tet with its own series at Merkin Hall, and residencies at both Sarah Lawrence College and City University of New York. 

Ms. Chapman is a founding member of the string trio Trigon and spent several summers at the Marlboro Music Festival. She holds a Doctorate of Music from SUNY Stony Brook, and is the cello instructor at Sarah Lawrence College.
