Dane Johansen

Dane Johansen, cellist, began his studies at age four. He made his debut as a soloist at nine and at the age of 16 was invited to the Young Artist Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of Richard Aaron. While in Cleveland, he won first prizes in the CIM Concerto Competition, and the Cleveland Cello Society Competition. Mr. Johansen continued his studies at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with Michel Strauss and is currently a student of Joel Krosnick and Darrett Adkins as part of Juilliard's prestigious Artists Diploma program. He also studies privately with legendary cellist, Bernard Greenhouse.

As the winner of The Juilliard School's Concerto Competition, Mr. Johansen recently appeared as a soloist under James Levine at Lincoln Center, performing Elliott Carter's Cello Concerto. 

He has performed throughout the United States and Europe, including appearances at Brooklyn's Bargemusic, Sibelius Academy in Finland, Prague's Academy of Music, Paris's Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and on BBC Live Radio. M. Johansen was featured as an Emerging Artist at the Seattle Chamber Music Festival and performed on the Steinway Concert Series in Chicago. Orchestral appearances feature Fairbanks Symphony, the Juilliard Orchestra and the National Repertory Orchestra where he was principal cellist. He has appeared as orchestral soloist and in recital in Benaroya Hall in Seattle and with the Houston Symphony following a prizewinning performance in the 2007 Ima Hogg Competition.  

Mr. Johansen has been invited to such music festivals as the Marlboro Music Festival, The Steans Institute for Young Artists at Ravinia, Musique de Chambre à Giverny, IMS Prussia Cove and was recently invited to perform at the 2007 Kronberg Cello Festival in memory of Mistislav Rostropovi.

Cellist Susannah Chapman is well-established as a chamber musician, soloist, contemporary music interpreter, and performer in leading cham-ber orchestras. The principal cellist of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, she is a former member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and currently performs regularly with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

 Ms. Chapman performs with the Bang-on-a-Can All-Stars, the cello quartet "Cello", and is a member of Cygnus, a contemporary music sex-tet with its own series at Merkin Hall, and residencies at both Sarah Lawrence College and City University of New York. 

Ms. Chapman is a founding member of the string trio Trigon and spent several summers at the Marlboro Music Festival. She holds a Doctorate of Music from SUNY Stony Brook, and is the cello instructor at Sarah Lawrence College.
